Our Families Speak

I am now 9-months clean. I'm doing the best I can to better myself, not just for me, but for my kids. They have watched me go in and out of jail so much. Now, I am in The Refuge's Career Connection training focusing on welding to better myself. I want to thank you with all my heart because you have helped me and saved my life. You have given me an opportunity I could not afford. I will never forget this and will always carry you in my heart.  Tim [NOTE: Soon after graduation, Tim went to work with a fantastic company. His life is changing every day.]

I've moved up from quality control to a lamination sprayer. I have my daughter back and not only bought a new car but also a new house. I have been clean over 20-months and I graduated from drug court. Thank you for asking & allowing me to be a part of your program. Melissa

THE REFUGE

“The ultimate test of a moral society is the kind of world that it leaves to its children.” Dietrich Bonhoeffer

At the center of The Refuge's work is the commitment that working together by combining our knowledge, resources, and passion for a better community leads to a better world for our children. This requires effort, vision, and commitment to address the personal, social, and structural issues that stand as barriers to sustainable living for so many in our community. It requires a proven strategy to move from temporary relief to empowerment for a sustainable future.

Therefore, we believe that we must address the entire social structure that affects families. If we can help parents see that empowerment is possible, that moving from lacking many basic necessities for life to sustainable living is reachable, a world is changed for the family and a new world is introduced to the children. This is our work. This is our passion!
